I enjoyed working to the EE-T project. For me it was a rich experience at various levels. It was a surprise to discover many people in many countries interested in this passionating topic of research. I had the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of experts. I learned a lot on how to read an economic text – especially an economic translation – from different points of view, or on how to use digital technologies I ignored before. I think we will continue to work together. Librarians enthusiastically cooperated to our work. With other colleagues, I used the EE-T portal to make an innovative course on the history of economic thought. Instead of lecturing, I put students at work on the portal. I think students will never forget what they learned in class this year. Furthermore, the course was interdisciplinary, as we merged classes with students of languages and worked together to the interpretation of translations. This too was innovative.

The EE-T project is very useful for me: it provides much information on author which was traduced, all existing translations, the access to some translated texts online, the historical context of each translation and their impacts on the economic ideas. For me, the most interesting aspects and strengths of the EE-T project is to give much important information on the author translated. It also provides to students, teachers and researches an access to original sources of translated texts and the historical context of the translations. Finally, the EE-T project sheds light on the fact that translation is never ideologically neutral but depends on the historical context of the translation. I would like to thank all the participants of the EE-T project for the quantity and the quality of the information available on the website and for the quantity and the quality of the research papers. I really hope that this project will continue in the future in order to provide to students, teachers and researches a better understanding of the impacts of the translations of economic texts on the development of economic ideas in Europe and on its consequences on society.

My experience of working at the EET Project has been really rich and very intense. Me, and I guess also other members of our team, have learnt a good deal new things. From an academic perspective it has been a nice thing to meet so many people working together on these topics, and especially concerning linguistic specialists. Didactics has also been a good point, by trying to make our research closer and useful to students. The EET portal is a fantastic tool to get deeper into this crucial part of HET. It would be great to continue uploading new translations to improve the database and new research works or educational devices.

We students had the opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the project, by creating entries in a database, the digitization of texts and the creation of a guide and a video reading of a historical text-economic analyzed by us. The project encompasses different aspects into a single framework, and possibly opposing, research and use of computing resources. The project makes possible the spread of the development of economic history. I expanded my cultural background and I have gained useful knowledge to put into practice, as well as in university life, even in the workplace.

The results of the research undertaken during the project, together with the database of translations of economics texts, greatly contribute to shed light on the international diffusion of economic thought since the 18th century, in regard to the role played by translations. Worth underlining is the effort to promote the interdisciplinary collaboration between History of Economic Thought scholars and linguistics and foreign language scholars. No less worth underlining is the production itself of the project portal and platform and its educational materials. Economic ideas do not naturally flow from producing to receiving countries. The obstacles to their international transmission and appropriation are made plainly evident by the problems that translators have to overcome in order to make sense of economic texts written in a different language and in a different historical context. The example and the evidence provided by a project focused on the History of Economic Thought serves nonetheless as a good reminder of the problems underlying the international circulation of economic ideas at the present time.

One of the most interesting aspects of EET is that one can get some insight into the popularity of a book or an author by seeing the list of all the translations in different languages . Also, it is interesting to have pdf translations (easier to work on electronic version of books, especially thanks to the search function) and the copy/paste function for quick quotations. This is a promising project for research and teaching in economic thought, especially because websites on history of economic thought and, more precisely, on translations are not numerous (it is actually the first I know on translations of economic texts). The videos section and the ebooks versions, in particular, can, I think, attract a lot of scholars.

I think this new database that has been created from the EE-T project opens lots of new opportunities to study the diffusion on economic thought around Europe. I’ve enjoyed a lot during the making-process of the database, and I’ve find out some interesting things. EET is also helpful for teaching. Currently, I’m using the database to organize debates in class among the students.

The EET project is very relevant because the receipt of economic texts is a major issue in History of Economic Thought. This allows better understanding the thinking of an author by analyzing his readings and / or reception of his work at the international level. Working in the 18th century, where the diffusion of manuscripts was the main way to disseminate the emerging economic theory, this European project is a tremendous asset for the study of relationships between different authors from different countries (I think mainly France / Spain / Italy / England) I think the purpose of the project is excellent, that is the translation of founding texts of the economic analysis that provides insight into their impact at European level. The EET project has developed a very rich data base that offers opportunities for analysis, for stimulating future research, where there are a few aspects that may be improved such as not insist enough on why the translation of a particular text has occurred, what is the impact of this translation in the country, the translation is being faithful or not to original version.

When the EE-T Project was first introduced to me, I was truly excited by its innovative teaching tools and research activities. I would like to congratulate everyone for their contribution and effort for making this project such an innovative and guiding one. Having established an interdisciplinary collaboration between History of Economic Thought scholars and linguistic experts, this project attracts a broad range of profile to its online portal. I am sure and willing to see the interest in the project to grow bigger and I am looking forward seeing how this project will open some new ways for further research projects and innovative teaching activities.

I think the project is an excellent example of European academic collaboration and of a comparative research project in history of science and history of economic thought. It has important contributions to our understanding of the international dissemination of economic ideas and for a more complex and layered history of economic ideas.

We learned in a completely innovative way. I felt like a tiny researcher! I sincerely hope that this new way of making lessons will be appreciated by more professors, because this is definitely the way students learn more things.

By reading papers produced in the framework of the EET project and watching videos, I realized that this project was likely to illuminate very important issues related to the context and the consistency of prominent reading of famous papers. I particularly appreciated the fact that the research papers were done within that international network of HET researchers.

I think that the database has the potential to become a very useful tool for research. I greatly appreciated the pluridisciplinary aspect of our research. And comparing the translations of the same work made in various languages would be an exciting work.

The EE-T experience for me it was a very interesting way to re-think my research. Im a linguist, and the contact and merge with people of other fields like economic historians was really valuable and productive. It opens me new perspectives.

I have become more aware of how important it is for the quality of a translation if the original author of the text speaks the translation language himself, and can therefore provide his final verdict on the text, thereby preventing the problems of changed theoretical implications.

The EE-T project was useful because it allowed to explore relations between economic studies and language studies. It allowed our research group to work on terminology in historical perspective, an area scarcely studied in the context of the Portuguese language.

This has been an extremely useful project which should be continued, including partners from some other European language areas. The project will not only give an important stimulus to research and teaching the history of economic thought but also will contribute to making more conscious a common European cultural heritage and thus help to overcome some tensions/animosities which come up due to the Euro crisis.

EE-T portal is a very useful resource for scholars interested in history of economic thought, but also for many other scholars and for librarians too. For my perspective the bibliographic database offered many interesting reflections, not only about the content and the records inserted but also about the architecture of the database.

This project is extremely interesting and useful not only for students and researchers involved in Economics Studies, but also for all those interested in translation problematic and cultural and political relationships between countries. It offers, also to students and researches of Foreign Literatures, an original instrument to understand and analyze particular aspects of the construction of the social thought, which is fundamental to the interpretation of literary movements too, in specific geographical and cultural areas.

Thanks to this project I learned important things about the history of economic thought, which I would not had the possibility to learn otherwise, and I had the chance to put into practice what I’m studying.

The EE-T project results are useful means because they provide a demonstration of the circulation throughout Europe of the economic thought and show how, often in the past political and cultural reasons influenced the way works were translated.

I think for me the most useful part is the e-Translations which I intend to consult on regular basis for my student works, and if specialized on the Organizational Issues, I’m sure I can find quite a few useful materials.

It is an interesting approach to the diffusion of economic ideas, a good source of teaching instruments and also a potential database for research. This project will be an essential tool in my teaching in the future

I teach several courses of Economic History and I use economic thought texts to explain the how economic ideas have conditioned economic policies along history. The EE-T project is useful to find materials and to know what were the most influent authors in each country through translations.
S. R.
Student

In my opinion it is the database the most useful tool for research reasons. I find didactical contents very useful too, but its applicability is a little more difficult. It is necessary to device new ways to use them. I think the project portal is very good. It may become a powerful tool for research and teaching. The combination of both in a single format is the biggest strength of this project in my view. A great project, very useful, and innovative, at least in the fields of economic history and history of economic ideas.
J. C.
Lecturer
Universitat de Barcelona
The results are in fact over my expectations. Both in terms of teaching (the video-lectures, for example, are very high-quality and very useful in class) and research (the number of papers and the amount of topics that have arisen from the EE-T project is amazing). The EE-T project has a big potential both in terms of research and teaching. I have really enjoyed my participation in this project. I have learned a lot. I hope we can find the way to continue with this project. I also like the international aspect of the project in the sense of putting together information from many countries and experiences regarding economic ideas diffusion.
X. I.
Lecturer
Universitat de Barcelona
The main interesting point of the project in my opinion is putting together such an amount of resources from different fields in social sciences, regarding books as well as sources. In my opinion, the project should go to next step creating a bank of electronical books, papers, statements of all academics in history of economic thought no matter how famous or rode they have been. It would turn the project a really useful tool for everybody in any degree level of knowledge in economics.
C. F.
Lecturer
Universitat de Barcelona
The Research Sources on History of Economic Thought is a very important project considering that nowadays the Economics education has lost too much in this field. In this sense, I think that by disseminating projects like this would enrich the necessary debate about the role that should have the History of Economic Thought not only in Economics but also in all social sciences.
R. A.
Lecturer
Universitat de Barcelona
The database of Translations of Economic Texts, the video lectures and the guides to the analysis of the economic translations and related exercises probably are the most useful sections on the project, as they provide fully information about relevant authors in the history of economic thought, as well as they map their dissemination across countries and languages.

I met my expectations in EE-T project. They gave me the opportunity to share my first research paper and encourage me to continue. Thanks to this project I have the great experience of attend a conference about History of Economic Thought.
E. L. F.

I wanted to congratulate you on a first-rate conference. I was very impressed by the number, breadth and quality of papers presented. The conference was very well organized and the body of work your participants created something of which you should be very proud. I was happy to be part of it. I heard some of the papers associated with this project at the History of Economics Society conference in Vancouver, and I know the sessions you organized at the European meetings in London were equally well received. This is a very important topic and one that North Americans have not spent very much time thinking about. I think yours is one of the most interesting and important projects in our field in many years.
