The EET International Conference

The international conference entitled Translations of Economic Texts into and from European Languages, organized in the framework of the EE-T project, was held at the University of Pisa (Italy) on 11 to 13 September. The aim of the conference was to present the results of researches carried out throughout Europe on the international circulation of economic ideas through translations and adaptations of economic texts. The three days event was attended by around 100 participants representing: lecturers, researchers, students in the field of history of economic thought. Fourth Project Meeting

The fourth and last meeting of the E-ET project will be held in Pisa, in Italy, on 12 September 2013. The meeting will be hosted by the Department of Economics of the University of Pisa. The purpose of this final meeting is to assess the results achieved and to discuss the finalization of the project deliverables. All of the E-ET project partners will attend the meeting.

The EE-T Project Final Conference

The international conference entitled Translations of Economic Texts into and from European Languages takes place at the University of Pisa (Italy) on 12-14 September 2013. The Conference marks the final step of the EE-T project. The aim of the conference is to show up research on the international circulation of economic ideas through translations and adaptations of economic texts. The conference will be opened with a welcome speech from the Rector of Pisa University. The keynote speech will be made by Evelyn Louise Forget from the University of Manitoba (Canada). Experts from all over Europe will attend the event to share the results of their research work on the issue of international circulation of economic ideas through translations and adaptations of economic texts.

EET at the History of Economics Society Annual Meeting

The EE-T Project has been presented with its objectives, on going activities and achieved results at HES (History of Economics Society) 40th Annual Meeting. 1000 Records on the EET Database

An important Milestone has just been achieved in the framework of the EET project as 1000 records were entered in the EE-T European Bibliographic Database of translations of economic texts. The database is searchable by century (18th Century - 19th Century - 20th Century), by author, by title. It is also possible to carry out a search among languages from and which the texts were translated as well as by type of publication (e.g. books, essays, articles etc). Links to the digital editions of the texts are also available.

EET at the international ESHET Conference

On 16 May, the EET project was presented at the ESHET, European Society for the History of Economic Thought, International Conference that was held at Kingston Business School in the UK. The theme of the 2013 ESHET conference was Economic Theory and Business Practice: Their relations through the ages. For information please check the ESHET conference web site.

EET on Facebook

The EET project Facebook page is becoming very popular on Facebook it now has 260 friends. Most of them are university lecturers, researchers and students in the field of economics and languages, therefore representing the main target group of the EET project. A collection of Video Lectures is currently being produced by the EE-T partner Universities. The video lectures focus on issues related to the translations of economic texts. These are available in the Video Lectures section of the EE-T project portal.

EE-T Project presented at 12th Conference of the Italian Association for the History of Economic Thought (AISPE)

The 12th Conference of AISPE was held in Florence (Italy) from 21st to 23rd February 2013. A session of the Conference was devoted to the presentation of the EE-T Project. Marco Guidi presented a paper on the theoretical and socio-historical background of the translations of economic texts, while Antonella Leoncini and Daniela Giaconi presented a case study on the translations of Jean-Baptiste Say’s works. At the end of the session, a demonstration of the contents and potentials for research and education of the project portal has been performed. The Call for Papers of the final conference was distributed among participants.

Exercises

A collection of Exercises related to the Guides produced by the experts of the EE-T project partner Universities are being published in the Exercises section of the EE-T project portal. The exercises are part of the educational material offered by the EE-T portal together with the guides to the reading and to the linguistic, semantic and textual analysis of economic translations e-texts, and the online forum on economic translations e-texts.

Third Meeting

The third meeting of the EE-T project was held in Paris (France) on 21 and 22 January 2013. An entire working day was dedicated to the presentation of the research papers produced by the experts involved at transnational level. A detailed joint analysis and a long discussion was held on each of the research papers presented. During the meeting, the project partners also checked the activities carried out and assessed the results achieved so far. The project partnership also organized the work for the production of the Guides, of the related exercises and of video lectures to be produced on the history of economic thought.

Guides

The Guides for the use of the database produced by the experts of the EE-T project partner Universities are being published in the Guides section of the EE-T project portal. The purpose of the Guides is to introduce to students and researchers the historical contextualization of texts through appropriate information on the context of editions. The Guide should highlight the potential of textual analysis of historical texts for a critical appraisal of contemporary economic issues and for the development of a common European culture and citizenship.

The EE-T Project at the Erasmus Coordinators Meeting in Brussels

On 10-11 December 2012, University of Pisa, the project promoter of EE-T, attended the Erasmus Coordinators Meeting Selection 2012 organized by the EACEA in Brussels. The two-day meeting is a kick-off meeting for Erasmus projects selected for Community funding in 2012 as well as a follow-up meeting for projects selected in 2011. It has been designed to provide Erasmus coordinators with detailed information on administrative and financial aspects of the management of their projects and to facilitate networking among participants (presentation of projects, exchange of good practices, challenges in project management). The Conference entitled Translation and Self-translation, A Pathway Through Literary Genres, held in Pisa (Italy) on 29th-30th November 2012, organized by Scuola Normale Superiore and the Department of Philology, Linguistics and Literature of the University of Pisa, hosted a session entirely devoted to the E-ET Project. Research Papers

A collection of research papers produced by the experts of the EE-T project partner Universities is being published in the Research Papers section of the EE-T project portal. The research papers focus on the impact of translations on the history of economic thought. Each of the research papers is the result of a transnational discussion among the experts involved in the EE-T project.

Collection of Digital Translations of Economic Texts

The EE-T team has selected and digitalized translations into eight languages (French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish and Turkish) of texts of the history of economic thought. The results are available on the e-Translations section of the EE-T project portal.

The EE-T project at the Summer School on the History of Economic Thought

During the 15th Summer School on the History of Economic Thought in Lille, France, both senior and young scholars were informed about the EE-T project, its scope and aims, in informal discussions. The summer school was organized on 3 to 8 September. The presentation of EE-T was made by the German partner of the EE-T project, the Universitat Hohenheim.

The EE-T project at the Didactics of Economic History Meeting

On the 21 and 22 June 2012 the Tenth Meeting of Didactics of Economic History, was organized by the Spanish Society of Economic History (AEHE), in Salamanca, Spain. The University of Barcelona presented the EE-T project at the meeting, stressing its didactic aims. The participating professors became aware of tools provided by the EET Portal. Guide on How to Use the Database of texts of the history of economic thought

A Guide on how to use the Database of texts of the history of economic thought has been produced by the project promoter and is now available on the Database section. The guide is available in eight different languages and provide a useful support for researchers and professors in the field of the history of economic thought that are willing to use the database or to contribute to the database with new entries.

Second Project Partners Meeting in Lisbon

The second meeting of the EE-T project was held in Lisbon, Portugal on 18-19 June 2012. The meeting was hosted in the premises of the University of Lisbon. During the meeting, the project partners presented the activities carried out and the results reached. Also, the activities to be carried out in the future months were further planned and the expected deliverables were checked and organized. During the meeting a revision of the financial and administrative rules was made as well as a first check of the expenditures made so far.

The EE-T project at the International Conference on Economics and Administration ICEA 2012

On 8-9 June 2012 the EE-T project was presented at the 2012 International Conference on Economics and Administration (ICEA 2012), organized by the University of Bucharest, aimed at bringing together researchers, scientists, scholars and students in all areas of Economics and Administration, and providing an international forum for the dissemination of original research results, new ideas and practical development experiences which concentrate on both theory and practices.

The EE-T project at the Annual Conference of the European Society for the History of Economic Thought

On 17-19 May 2012, the Annual Conference of the European Society for the History of Economic Thought was held in St. Petersburg, Russia. The University of Lisbon presented a paper on the EE-T project. The presentation focused on the project’s objectives t and acknowledgement its relevance for the development of innovative studies bridging economics, linguistics and history.

On May 19th 2012 the third edition of the International Symposium “Challenges and Opportunities of the new Information and Communication Technologies for Education” was held in Bucharest. The EET project was presented to the public attending the event.

A number of associated partners officially joined the project. The project associated partners contribute to the carrying out of specific project activities. They also contribute to the improvement of the project impact and to its sustainability. The media are interested in the EET project. A number of articles about EET were published in local and national newspapers both on paper and online in Italy, Greece, Romania. EET is on Facebook

At the beginning of February 2012, the EET Facebook page was created. About one month after its creation, EET on Facebook has 85 friends. Most of EET friends on Facebook are higher education teachers, researchers and students of economy and in particular of history of economic thought. On Facebook, EET shares documents and information related to the project’s topics.

Selection of Existing Databases on the topic of History of Economic Thought

The EE-T project partners are currently searching, selecting and reviewing existing online databases and digital archives on the history of economic thought. The result of this research activity is currently being uploaded on the Links section of the EE-T project portal. The purpose of this activity is to make available reviews and presentations of existing resources.

First Project Partners Meeting

On 14 and 15 November 2011, the first project meeting took place in Florence (Italy) at Pixel site. The aim of the first meeting was to share with the project partners the information about the project objectives, activities to be carried out and expected results. The formats and guidelines proposed to carry out each of the project's activities were presented and discussed with all partners to be revised and adopted. The meeting was also an opportunity for the partners to get to know each other and get all information about each other's expertise and experience.

Selection of Authors and Texts to be researched

The project promoter, University of Pisa, has produced a selection of relevant authors and texts to be researched in the framework of the EE-T project. The purpose of the selection is to provide guidelines for the project partnership on the national translations of the selected texts to be identified and reviewed for the database. The selection produced by the University of Pisa is currently being integrated with the selections provided by the partner universities.

Start Date of the EE-T Project

The EE-T project, funded by the European Commission, in the framework of the Lifelong Learning Programme – Erasmus Sub programme, officially starts today. The project is promoted by the University of Pisa (Italy) , Department of Economy and it is coordinated by the same university in cooperation with Pixel. Higher education institutions from 8 European countries are officially involved in the project as contractual partners. The project has the objective to assess the impact of translations of economic texts on the history of Economic Thought in Europe
